What are Hopi-Ear Candles?
Hopi-Ear Candles are long flax tubes made up of natural ingredients which work as a clearance therapy and can be used for many problems relating to the ear and head. The lymph system can also be influenced by this method as the occipital and sub-mandibular limph nodes are stimulated by the treatment. Ear Candles today are still made from the basic traditional formula which originates from the Hopi Indians. The candles are made from cotton flax, which is stiffened with extract of honey and herb oils whose healing properties have been known to the Hopi Tribe for hundreds of years.

A Brief History
Hopi ear candles have been used throughout civilisation, from the ancient Greeks and later to the Mediterranean and Latin American Countries. It is the America Hopi Indians of North Arizona whose practice of ear candle treatment reached the western world. Hopi means peaceful people, for many centuries they have lived with respect for Mother Nature, and with a great univeral spirituality. Shamen healers have also traditionally used ear candles. 
Ancient wall paintings show their importance in healing ceremonies.
How do they work?
The candles work on a chimney principle. Impurities are drawn to the surface where they can be gently removed. Once the candle has been lit there begins a mild suction process. Inside the ear candle itself the natural movement of the flame vibrates the rising air which gently massages the eardrum. In addition to this, the concentrated vapour released by the candle circulates inside the ear. This soothes any irritated areas. During the burning of the candle, locally administered heat stimulates the blood ciculation. Secretion flow within the ears and sinuses is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities and deposits. Most of these are carried away through the chimney effect although some can be found within the condensed candle wax residue.

What a Hopi-Ear Candle Treatment Entails
After the first initial consultation regarding your health, lifestyle, diet, etc. You will then go through to the treatment area. You do not need to remove any clothes. Whilst up on the couch, your face will be cleansed and toned, ready for your treatment. You will then get comfortable, you will be shown the candles, and one candle will be lit and placed firmly but gently into the auditory canal of the ear. The candle will burn down slowly, and you might hear crackling and popping noises, feeling warmth within the ear, you may even feel very relaxed and sleepy, this is quite normal. Once the candle has burned right down to the line, the candle will be removed and extinguished in a bowl of water. The ear will be gently massaged then you will be turned over and the same treatment will be carried out on the other ear. Both ears are always treated. This treatment is very safe and will not burn you. Once both ears have been treated, a mini facial will then be applied to the head and face, this is very soothing and relaxing, and enables enough time to allow any fluid imbalance within the ears to settle, so you should not feel dizzy on sitting up.
This treatment is recommended to be repeated within 7 - 10 days, then every 4 - 6 weeks as a preventative treatment.
